Thoughts and Truth from the Impossible Life

Response to the Recent Israeli Air Strikes on Targets in Gaza

In Response to the Recent Israeli Air Strikes on Targets in Gaza:

It is terrible that civilians died. I have a question and a statement about the “article”. The question is, what were the targets in the airstrike and what threat or perceived threat was Israel attempting to eliminate with these raids? And the statement is in regards to this direct quote from the article, “Speaking in Tehran on Saturday, Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh reiterated the Hamas movement’s long-held stance that it “will never recognize Israel,” as Palestinian efforts to form a temporary unity government headed by acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas continue.” He is the reason why the conflict never ends and has been going on for 60 years. Without recognition of the reality that Israel exists and has the right after 60+ years to exist, there will never be peace. Twenty years from now, we’ll still be having this same conversation and innocent people on both sides will continue to die. It had been an unpopular stance, but peace and the full end of hostilities and needless deaths and injuries can be immediate if the leaders of Hamas etc would actually accept peace and Israel’s existence. Israel has been offering peace including an independent state for years. This truth is well documented. Nearly two decades of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians have failed miserably. The key reason for this failure is the Palestinians’ refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. The basic paradigm of the Oslo accords, signed in 1993, held that both the Israelis and the Palestinians were, at long last, prepared to recognize the legitimacy of each other’s national rights and aspirations. With that essential threshold crossed, it was thought, all that would remain was to work out a compromise on core issues: where to draw borders, whether and how to divide Jerusalem. That, at least, was the theory. Yet over the course of the last 18 years, during which negotiations were conducted along these lines, the rhetoric and actions of the Palestinian leadership have proved that paradigm wrong. The Palestinians have not in fact recognized the legitimacy of the national rights of the Jewish people.

(Why the “two state solution” is no solution~ why peace can only be obtained through total victory. )

(12/22/08 Victor Sharpe tells it as it is about Israel’s need to obtain victory!!!)
