Thoughts and Truth from the Impossible Life

Meet the inventor of the world’s first cardboard bike | ISRAEL21c

Nobody believed it would work, but an Israeli cycling enthusiast thought otherwise.

Izhar Gafni is crazy about bikes – he makes them, fixes them and rides them. But three engineer friends thought the chain had really slipped from the gears when Gafni suggested crafting a cheap and environmentally friendly bicycle out of cardboard. He had been inspired while working in California on a pomegranate project, and one day saw a car outside a bicycle shop sporting a wood-frame boat with a cardboard cover.

Gafni started testing and building, refusing to accept the engineers’ opinion that the project would never work. Israelis, he reminded them, “did impossible things with agriculture, with military, with high-tech and science. I thought, if they can do it, I can do it.” Gafni has built six prototypes of 100 percent recyclable materials, 95% percent of it strong cardboard. He sees it as a possible urban environmental project or perhaps as a mode of transportation for schoolchildren in Africa. He is hoping the worldwide publicity for his project will win his cardboard bikes corporate or governmental sponsors.

Israel Reports First Use of Surface-to-Air Missile by Gaza Terrorists

Posted on October 17, 2012

Patrick Goodenough/CNS News

In a new sign of the growing dangers facing Israel, security officials have confirmed that terrorists in the Gaza Strip for the first time have fired an anti-aircraft missile at an Israeli aircraft.

Officials told the Yedioth Ahronoth daily that the weapon, apparently a Strela shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile, targeted an Israeli military helicopter over the Hamas-ruled territory last week but missed.

Israel has long suspected Hamas and other terror groups in Gaza of having such weapons, and amid the chaos accompanying the downfall of the Gaddafi regime in Libya many went missing, and more are believed to have been smuggled into the Strip, via tunnels from the Sinai peninsula.

Soviet-designed Strela-2 missiles (known by NATO as SA-7 Grail) have been used in various insurgencies around the world, including the mujahedeen’s fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan, and the anti-coalition insurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past decade.

The threat posed by such missiles – also known as “man-portable air defense systems” (MANPADS) – has been cited for years by Israeli security officials in expressing concerns about the risks of Palestinian militants using them against passenger aircraft approaching of leaving Israel’s main international airport. Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv is located less than five miles from the nearest territory the Palestinians want included in a future state.

In September last year White House counterterrorism advisor John Brennan told reporters that administration was concerned that Libyan regime weapons including MANPADS could get into hands of al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups.

It was reported at the time that thousands of shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles were unaccounted for in Libya, having gone missing from a looted regime arms depot.

MANPAD’ ease of operation, portability and relatively low cost make them a weapon of choice for terrorists wanting to target civilian or military aircraft.

According to U.S. government data, more than 40 civilian aircraft have been hit by such weapons over the past four decades, resulting in some 800 deaths. Rebels used the weapons to shoot down a plane carrying the presidents of Burundi and Rwanda in 1994, an act that helped to trigger the genocide that claimed more than 800,000 lives.

In one known al-Qaeda use, terrorists tried unsuccessfully to down an Israeli airliner shortly after it took off from an airport in Kenya in 2002.

The reported use of a MANPAD by Gaza-based terrorists came during the same week as Hezbollah, the Shi’ite Iranian proxy in Lebanon, deployed a drone aircraft over Israel. The unmanned plane was shot down over an uninhabited area in southern Israel, and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a speech said it had been designed in Iran and assembled by his group in Lebanon.

Billy Graham’s Organization Removes Mormonism from List of Cults

See on Scoop.itTruth Revealed

The Rev. Billy Graham is signaling to evangelical Christians that they shouldn’t hesitate to vote for Mitt Romney because of his Mormon religion, further cementing Romney’s strong standing with the key Republican voting bloc.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association removed the Mormon religion from a list of cults on its website this week, following a recent meeting with Romney at Graham’s home and months of making the case to followers of all sects of Christianity that the candidate’s religion is not a reason to deny him their vote.

The organization today ran a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal with a direct appeal from Billy Graham to vote for socially conservative politicians.

“As I approach my 94th birthday, I realize this election may be my last,” Graham says in the ad. “I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman.”

Ken Barun, the association’s chief of staff, told the Charlotte Observer that the group chose to remove the listing to stay out of a theological debate that they think would become politicized during the hard-fought election.

“We are at a profound crossroads,” Franklin Graham wrote in the Association’s magazine, Decision. “Our secularized society has shaken its fist in God’s face and rejected his very name… We must not silence our voices when government clashes with the worship of God. I pray that all Christians and God-fearing Americans will put aside labels and vote for principles – God’s principles.”

He called Mitt Romney’s father George Romney “one of the great governors of Michigan.” George Romney’s religion, he wrote, “never interfered with governing but his personal faith did define his strong marriage, family values, and personal integrity. I believe the same to be true for Governor Mitt Romney.” Franklin Graham went on to criticize President Obama’s “plan to rebuild America.”

A Pew Research Center survey from July showed that just 60 percent of voters were aware Romney is Mormon, and the vast majority of those who were aware said it didn’t matter. Another Pew poll from August showed that Romney’s religion is no longer his defining characteristic.

1 Peter 5 8

1 Peter 5:8
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Be careful. Be alert. Two hidden eyes are zeroed in on you. The beast is hungry and he is stalking his prey. He is deceptive and deceitful. He will lure you in with what is alluring to you. He will make sin seem innocent. He will make folly feel fun. He makes the first step of disobedience appear to be solid ground. Lying is his native language. He is not all-knowing, but he knows all about the human condition. He sets his traps accordingly.

He is the author of confusion. He makes lust feel like love. He makes luxuries look like necessities. He can make us mistake selfish ambition for God’s will. His offerings are sweet and he keeps them coming until our soul is nauseated. He makes gross sin enjoyable…for a short time. He blinds us with shiny things. By the time we come to our senses, we are entangled in his snare.

So, be careful. Be alert. You will need to be in constant communication with the Father. You will need to keep following hard after the Son. You will survive only by the power of the Spirit. Don’t drop your guard! The beast is hungry and he is stalking his prey.

Father, remind us often that, on our own, we are no match for Satan. Give us strength to stand firm and resist him. Please keep us alert and self-controlled. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

CAIR issues taquiyya phoney anti-terrorism statement to fool naive public

See on Scoop.itTruth Revealed

This is meant for western consumption. And if accepted at face value, it is meant to pacify those who question its affiliation with known terrorist groups. No where does it denounce the terrorist actions except against “civilians”. As islam counts ALL who struggle against islam to be enemies not civilians, this allows terrorism and acts of violence according to the qu’ran against ALL of Israel, against all Jews, Christians, and other religions who resist islam. In other words, civilians are ONLY those who submit to rule by islam. CAIR may be masters of double speak, but we know better. At minimum, they are supporters of terrorism at most actual subversive terrorists themselves.
