The Atonement

The Passion of the Christ

“The atonement of the Master is the central point of world history. Without it, the whole purpose for the creation of the earth and our living upon it would fail…

“…Without it, no man or woman would ever be resurrected… And so all the world, believers and non-believers, are indebted to the Redeemer for their certain resurrection, because the resurrection will be as wide as the fall, which brought death to every man.

“There is another phase of the atonement which makes me love the Savior even more, and fills my soul with gratitude beyond expression. It is that in addition to atoning for Adam’s transgression, thereby bringing about the resurrection, the Savior by his suffering paid the debt for my personal sins. He paid the debt for your personal sins and for the personal sins
of every living soul that ever dwelt upon the earth or ever will dwell in mortality upon the earth. But this he did conditionally.

“The benefits of this suffering for our individual transgressions will not come to us unconditionally in the same sense that the
resurrection will come regardless of what we do. If we partake of the blessings of the atonement as far as our individual transgressions are concerned, we must obey the law.”

Walk In God’s Word

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Have you noticed that many people, and surprisingly some Christians, want to reconstruct the road to heaven? Some propose, “If we could broaden this thing out to four lanes, more people could get on. It’s too narrow as it is.”

No way. The Bible says there is one way to heaven and it’s the right way. That kind of singularity is like fingernails on a chalkboard to our culture. “One way? Let’s offer many paths to God . . . Jesus, Mohammed, pick the one that’s best for you.” Man’s way-broad. God’s way-narrow. Only through Christ.

Will you believe that Jesus is the only way to eternal salvation and that to deny Him is to choose eternal death and separation from God?

Whoa, some would say. Does the Bible really teach this? Check it out for yourself:

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” John 3:36

“There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 2:5 KJV

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 KJV

“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:11-12 NKJV

And of course the well-known, pivotal verse, John 14:6, where Jesus said categorically, “I am the way, the truth, the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (KJV).

Now, don’t picture Jesus in John 14:6 as some brutal gatekeeper who stands at the door and says, “This far and no further; nobody gets to the Father except through Me.” He’s saying, “Come, come. This is the way, through Me.” Jesus welcomes all who come to Him. He’s not blocking the path; He’s the door; He’s the way. He loves you and will receive you if you will come to Him sincerely.

What do you believe about Jesus Christ? This is the issue upon which your eternity rests.
